What insurance colour are you?

What insurance colour are you?

Insurance comes in many colours and not just the colours used by the insurance companies.

Though blues and greens tend to prevail with the providers and red has a smattering with a couple. Funny enough black does not feature too much in the mix for some obvious reasons.

Insurance, particularly life insurance is often a dark subject. Why invite it in by talking about it is often a very natural human response. I do not want black and grey in my life; I want bright colour, light and sunshine.

However, we use colour in many ways. Black for funerals and dark times, blue and black for depression and mental health, pink for breast cancer, white for no violence against women, yellow daffodil for cancer. You get the idea.

Many non-Europeans cultures have a differing approach to colours. We have white for weddings and black for funerals with colours often muted in these situations. Contrastingly with Indian culture, weddings are colourful affairs, and funerals are decked out in white.

Which puts a twist on Indians observing a European wedding for the first time.

Back to our subject, grey is an interesting one, the industry often says claims are never black and white, mostly shades of grey. One insurer has taken the stance if it is grey they pay.

In other words, if it is not black and a decline, it is white and a yes they pay.

Many situations are a matter of perspective. What looks blue to you may look grey or green to someone else as a result of the position of the light or their perspective.

When it comes to your insurance planning, this is often a significant part of the whole process of cover and a claim.

Yes, there are the very clear scientific aspects of medical and accounting. The numbers are the numbers, and the conditions are the conditions.

Though with the law many people understand it can be clinical (prescriptive) in some aspects and quite vague (guiding) in others. Which is why many lawyers find law fascinating.

What isn't appreciated with insurance is underwriting and applying insurance contracts to situations is more often an art form with a blank canvas and a palette of oil paints.

Some situations have very little in the way of technical content and can be an art-form in their own right. Yeah, I know you think the subject is like chewing on cardboard!

Others, yes, quite clinical in the approach. This is the problem, here's the pill.

When we look at underwriting you, we are looking primarily at three aspects

  • What does your world look like
  • What does your health look like
  • What financial aspects make up your picture

Then we look at the insurers

Depending on what you present like we will take two general approaches.

  • The best cover at a reasonable premium
  • If there are aspects of your situation that preclude aspects of cover or will result in significant increases in premiums we'll focus on the best cover accessible on standard premiums with an eye to advising on the better cover that comes with increased premiums, if it is available.

Ultimately the colour we want for you is transparent. Clear in what it covers, how it works, and ultimately that it will do what you want from it.

Ok colour wise we actually don't care what your colour is, so long as the colour you get does what you what it to.

It may be:

  • a watercolour, relatively light cover that protects you from the worst
  • a pastel, with good solid colours but on the lighter side of life.
  • an oil painting, a work of art that covers all the bases and the more you look at it, the deeper the picture really is.

I may not be the most creative bloke around; it's even been suggested I'm a bit colour blind. When it comes to drawing pictures, even my stick figures are appalling.

When it comes to your risk management, this is where I shine. This is where we tease out the kinks, corners and really put a plan together.

Why go to the bank for a cookie cutter and traced outline that gets applied to everyone, when you can come to us and have a work of art created just for you in any colour you like?

For the most cost effective, wide-ranging, and appropriate risk management plan for you, give us a call and try us out.

We do not cost you anything to get advice, but we ensure financial security for you!

Moreover, while you are at it, check out our colour themed blogging tour some of our colleague's businesses have put together.
